Freddie Lyle Black was born on December 18, 1931, in Linn County, Kansas. He was the son of Hugh U. and Margaret (Norbury) Black. Freddie grew up in Linn County, moved to Garnett in 1956 and Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas in 1960, where he made his home until his death on Thursday, July 12, 2007, at the age of seventy-five years. Freddie attended Walnut Valley Grade School in Linn County through the 8th grade and graduated from Pleasanton High School with the class of 1949. Freddie enjoyed his lifelong farming career. In 2001, F & L Farms received the Soil Conservation Award. He also sold Moorman Feed fifteen years and was employed with American Breeder's Livestock Association. He served in the United States National Guard from September 24, 1951, to January 28, 1952, transferring to Regular Army. He was honorably discharged December 30, 1953. He was a member of Ottawa Church of The Nazarene. Freddie was a devoted husband, proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed the outdoors and caring for their farm. In his spare time, he enjoyed softball. He was a true competitor; however, the camaraderie and socializing was what it was all about with Freddie. He appreciated all his friendships. He also liked to travel. He and his wife, Jean, enjoyed the many people and places they encountered together. On June 3, 1952, Freddie was united in marriage with Doris Jean Burton in Pleasanton, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Lyle and Cheryl Black of Ottawa, Kansas, Larry and Jeanne Black of Baldwin City, Kansas; two sisters, Carolyn Black of Mound City, Kansas, Joan Singmaster of Ft. Scott, Kansas; five grandchildren, Angie Hook, Betsy Hedges, Casey Black, Emily Clark, Eric Black; and four great-grandchildren, Audrey Hook, Addison Hedges, Evelyn Hook, Jacelyn Hedges. Freddie is preceded in death by his parents. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2007. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Black at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Saturday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 2 to 4:00 Sunday afternoon. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Ottawa Church of The Nazarene or Franklin County Cancer Foundation, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
