Freddie "Fred" Ronell Smith

Freddie Ronell "Fred" Smith, 68, of Topeka, Kansas, went on to his eternal home on January 13, 2014 at St. Francis Health Center, in Topeka. Fred was born October 22, 1945 in Ft. Scott, Kansas. He was the son of Louis R. and Jessie (Runkle) Smith. He spent his school years in Olathe, Kansas and graduated from Olathe High School in 1963. Fred served two years in the United States Army. He married the love of his life Janice Kay (Noyes) Wallace on October 6, 1984. Together they created a loving, blended family of five children. Fred spent his career as Superintendent at Reno Quarries and Killough Quarries. He retired in 1998. Much of his time was spent surrounded by his family enjoying tinkering in the garage, fishing and floating trips, camping, traveling, and riding his motorcycle. He loved spending time with his grandkids and also enjoyed monthly meetings with his old high school buddies. Fred was a Patriot and loved striking up conversations regarding politics and topics of the day. He was a member of the Topeka 912 Tea Party. He was a man of strong faith. He and Janice attended Bethel Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. He is survived by his wife Janice and their children Amanda (Dave) Achey of Paola, KS; Shawn (Annie) Smith of Parsons, KS; Randy Wallace of Elk City, OK; Lonnie (Valarie) Wallace of Topeka, KS; Larry (Raylene) Wallace of Holton, KS; 14 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister JoAnn Spragg of Cape Fair, MO. He had several members of his extended family that he stayed close to through the years. He is preceded in death by his parents Louis and Jessie Smith; his sister Norma Cook; and an infant brother. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the American Diabetes Association or Wounded Warrior Project.
