Fred Vogler, 86, of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018, at Wellsville Retirement Community. He had been plagued with many health issues for the last 10 years, but always kept a good attitude and enjoyed life. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, August 27, 2018, at Calvary Baptist Church, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends immediately following the service. Fred was born July 1, 1932, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Fred A. Sr. and Helen K. (Froeliger) Vogler. Most of Fred’s younger years were in Lawrence, before moving to Burlingame. In the mid-1950s, he moved to Ottawa. He graduated from Lawrence High School with the class of 1949. Fred was united in marriage to Kay Kyle May 13, 1957, in Ottawa. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his two children, Susan Langton and husband Jeff of Overland Park and Douglas Vogler and wife Janelle of De Soto; granddaughter, Kelsey Moore and step grandchildren, Lauren Mabe, Jimmy Langton and Steven Langton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Helen Vogler. Fred worked for the Ottawa Police Department for 19 years starting as a dispatcher and rising to the position of Assistant Chief. When Rex Bowling became sheriff, he asked Fred to join their department as undersheriff and he served in that capacity for 20 years. They had a wonderful working relationship until Fred’s retirement in 1999. He was a former member of the Kansas Peace Officers Association and Crime Stoppers. He attended Calvary Baptist Church of Ottawa. Fred loved hunting, KU basketball, Chiefs, Royals, fishing, coffee with his friends, traveling and eating out. Spending time with his family was his greatest enjoyment. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Calvary Baptist Church Academy or Good Shepherd Hospice c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
