Fred Joseph McFarland, age 86, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, at his home in Princeton, Kansas, with his family at his side. He was born on Saturday, January 29, 1927, the son of Fred and Oneita (Hodges) McFarland. Fred has resided in Princeton for the last twenty-three years moving there from his farm south of Ottawa where he had lived forty-one years. He had previously lived in Gardner, Kansas. He graduated from Gardner High School with the class of 1944. On August 28, 1948 Fred was united in marriage with Patricia Green in Gardner, Kansas. She survives of the home. Fred worked as a farmer and dairyman for forty-one years retiring in 1989. Fred served in the United States Marine Corp as a Corporal during World War II in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Campaign from November 13, 1944 to August 15, 1946. His commendations and citations included the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of Franklin County Historical Society, Promenaders Square Dance Club, and Ottawa Genealogy Society. He is survived by his: Wife – Patricia McFarland of the home Daughter – Nancy and husband John Machnicki of Ottawa, Kansas Son – Frank and wife Diana McFarland of Willard, Ohio Daughter – Julie and husband Dan Bolen of Emporia, Kansas Son – Mark and wife Theresa McFarland of Emporia, Kansas Daughter – Mary McFarland of Atlanta, Georgia Son – John and wife Rebecca McFarland of Princeton, Kansas Daughter – Susan and husband Richard Harrison of Omaha, Nebraska Son-in-law – Bob McAdoo of Leawood, Kansas Grandchildren – Twenty-nine Great-grandchildren – Eighteen Nephew – Arthur Boudreaux of Orange, Texas Nephew – Vincent Boudreaux of Kansas City, Missouri 1st cousin – Mary Patricia Strange of Spokane, Washington He is preceded in death by his: Daughter – Katherine Jane McAdoo Granddaughter – Kathy Bolen Parents – Fred & Oneita McFarland Sister – Margaret Elaine Boudreaux SERVICES: Cremation is planned. The McFarland family will meet with friends at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, March 24, 2013. A private family service will be held at a later date. CEMETERY: Inurnment Saint Columbia Catholic Cemetery, Gardner, Kansas.
