Frank T. Carpenter, Jr. On August 13,2011 Frank T. Carpenter, Jr., age 94, passed away leaving his wife, Ila, of 58 years at Rockledge Farm, their Paola home of almost 40 years. The son of Frank T. and Thurza Carpenter, Frank was born on November 22, 1916 in Kansas City, MO. During WWII having been classified 4F, Frank worked at the Fairfax bomber factory, wiring cockpits for the B-24 Liberator. For many years before retiring to raise registered horned herefords in Miami County, Frank was the owner of the Advertiser Printing Company and published the Shawnee Mission Advertiser. He served as the chairman and was a director of the Johnson County Chapter of the March of Dimes from 1951 -1958. He joined Rotary International in 1949 serving as president of the Shawnee Mission Rotary and the Paola Rotary where he completed 51 years of perfect attendance. He was a lifetime member of Sertoma International. As a member of the Miami County Beef Cattle Improvement Assn., he donated registered horned hereford calves to young Miami County farm kids. He continued his civic service in Miami County by serving on various committees and a township zoning board but will be remembered by many for providing fishing adventures to youngsters"now adults-- who caught his prized catfish which Frank fed daily at Rockledge pond. Survivors include his cherished wife, Ila, of Paola; a grandson Joe Carrier and great grandson, Jack, of North Carolina; and a grandson Frank T. Carpenter, IV and two great granddaughters, Amber and Ashley of Olathe, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mirabelle and Thurza, and his son Frank T. Carpenter, III. After cremation, private services are being scheduled at a later date.
