Frank Michael “Mike” Marconette was born on Wednesday, December 12, 1951, in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of Frank and Ione (Geiss) Marconette. A lifelong resident, he made his home in Ottawa until his death on Sunday, December 26, 2010, at the age of fifty-nine years. Mike attended Ottawa High School. He grew up in the Church Of The Nazarene of Ottawa. He was a truck driver for Ram’s of Olathe for several years; drove for Ottawa Ready Mix fifteen years; and was employed ten years at Fashion, Inc. of Ottawa. Mike served as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps from September of 1970 to September of 1972. His tour of duty included Vietnam and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He completed the Police Academy training program in Colorado and later became a Military Police Officer for the Marine Corps out of Camp Pendleton during the Vietnam War era. He loved the outdoors, spending many cherished moments fishing with his son, Shawn. Often, Sophie could find him sitting in the garage just looking out or by the pond admiring God’s creation. He was married to Geri (Toumberlin) Minor and Kathy Wilson. These marriages resulted in divorce. Mike is survived by his mother, Ione Marconette; companion and best friend, Sophie Browning; son, Shawn Marconette, all of Ottawa; three daughters, Alicia Daley and her husband, John, of Gardner, KS, Sara Persson and her husband, Zack, of Peculiar, MO, Danielle Layton and her companion, Casey, of Gardner, KS; nine brothers and sisters, Larry and his wife, Mary, of Yucca Valley, CA, Darrell and his wife, Jane, of Eudora, KS, Lee and his wife, Rita, of Ottawa, Don and his wife, Mary, of Ottawa, Shirley Kramer of Lee’s Summit, MO, Goldie Seaton and her husband, Terry, of Ottawa, Linda Watts and her husband, Barry, of Centropolis, KS, Ronnie and his wife, Linda, of Ottawa, John and his wife, Karen, of Ottawa; eight grandchildren, Parker, Grace, Seara, Calobe, Ethan, Steven, Dakota, Jonathan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father,Frank Marconette. SERVICES: Memorial Services will be held at Church Of The Nazarene, 7th and Elm, in Ottawa at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2010. IN STATE: Cremation is planned. CEMETERY: Inurnment will be at a later date at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.
