Frank Daniel 'Dan' Fogle, Sr. was born August 26, 1903, in rural Baldwin, Kansas. He was the son of Arza Bracken Fogle, Sr. and Alice S. (Scott) Fogle. Dan's family moved when he was small to the Williamsburg, Kansas area. A resident since 1938, Dan made his home in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas, until his death Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at the age of one hundred one years.He graduated from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1921. Mr. Fogle was a man of many talents. During his lifetime, he was a farmer, miner, business owner, inventor, and stone mason. In 1929, he founded Fogle Quarry and started hauling rock. After retiring from the quarry in 1964, he owned a saw mill and again started setting stone as a stone mason. He enjoyed his masonry work, building bell towers, and several local landmarks, including his stone house and the gates at the Franklin County Fairgrounds. He was also an expert in woodworking. He attended First Christian Church, of Ottawa, and was a member of Farm Bureau, Farm Co-op, and National Rifle Association. On September 2, 1931, Dan was united in marriage with Mildred Bernice Ashton at Olathe, Kansas. They celebrated sixty-nine years of marriage. She preceded him in death December 10, 2000. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Rachel Fogle, and two brothers, Walter Fogle and Arza Fogle. Mr. Fogle is survived by five sons, Dan Fogle, Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Ottawa, Richard Fogle and his wife, Sylvia, of Ottawa, Ted Fogle and his wife, Karen, of Ottawa, Karl Fogle and his wife, Sharon, of Salida, Colorado, John Fogle and his wife, Barbara, of San Diego, California; daughter, Kathy Fogle of Salida, Colorado; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2005. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Katrina Palan. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Fogle at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1:00 p.m. Friday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7 to 8:00 p.m. Friday and 12:30 p.m. Saturday, prior to the funeral service.
