Francisca Cortez Larios was born March 12, 1918, at Ottawa, Kansas. She was the daughter of Jos' and Juliana (Trejo) Cortez. A lifelong resident, she made her home in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas, until her death Friday, September 13, 2002, at the age of eighty-four years. Francisca attended Ottawa High School with the class of 1937. She was a lifelong homemaker. She was also employed as a seamstress at H. D. Lee Company of Ottawa and, later, as an assembler at King Radio, also of Ottawa. She was a fifty-year member of First Baptist Church, and, formerly, a charter member of the Mexican Baptist Church, both of Ottawa. Francisca was also a member of Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Ottawa Library Board, and volunteer worker during many local elections. Francisca was very active in the Church and involved in the community She helped found the Mexican Baptist Church of Ottawa. Francisca was a talented pianist and enjoyed playing the piano at Church. She also enjoyed gardening, shopping for antiques, and reading. Her greatest enjoyment, however, came from her family and grandchildren, and spending time with them. On June 20, 1936, Francisca was united in marriage with Delfino M. Larios, Sr., at Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 15, 1995. She is also preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Juliana Cortez Larios; and, infant brother, David Cortez. Mrs. Larios is survived by two sons, Delfino M. 'Sonny' Larios, Jr. and his wife, Senida, of Ottawa, Jos' A. 'Butch' Larios of Lawrence; four daughters, Carolina Coleman and her husband, Richard, of Bedford, Massachusetts, Marcelina Baer and her husband, Roderick, of Santa Barbara, California, Cristina Meharry and her companion, Dan Coomer, of Olathe, Elizabeth Huff of Lawrence; two sisters, Gloria Alfaro and Rachel Cortez, both of Ottawa; fourteen grandchildren; and, nine great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at the Dengel & Son Mortuary, 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2002. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Steven C. Van Ostran. IN STATE: Mrs. Larios will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 5:00 p.m. Sunday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Tuesday evening.
