Francis R. Flora

Francis Robert Flora, age 83 of Ottawa, Kansas, died Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Overland Park Regional Hospital, Overland Park, Kansas. He was born on Friday, July 09, 1926 in Menomonie, WI. He was the son of Noah Henry Flora and Mary (Rockwell) Flora. Francis lived a majority of his life in the Ottawa area. He was employed at Buildex, owned his own floor covering service and also worked five or six years for Crooks Floor coverings and eleven years for Nitcher Floor Service. Later he and his wife worked for the Corps of Engineers as gate attendants and camp ground managers, the first year at Kanapolis Lake in Kansas and then nine years at Pomme de Terre in Missouri, retiring in 1997. Francis enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed reading and watching the “Duke”, John Wayne. He was an avid collector of Indian trinkets. On Saturday, July 15, 1944, Francis was united in marriage with Betty Pauline Jones at Menomonie, WI. She survives of their home. He is also survived by his: Daughter-Wanda Crooks and her husband, Dick, of Ottawa, Daughter-Carol Beckner and her husband, Ken, of Belen, New Mexico Daughter-Betty Archer and her husband, Wayne, of Ottawa Daughter-Marg Dunkin and her husband, Dale, of Ottawa, Daughter-Kathy Miller and her husband Calvin, of Ottawa, Son-David Flora and his wife, Joanna, of Ottawa, Brother-Kenneth Flora of Covington, Ohio, Brother-Robert Flora of Pleasant Hill, Ohio, Eleven- Grandchildren, Fifteen- Great Grandchildren, Two- Great-Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his: Daughter-Mary Frances Flora, Mother-Mary Elizabeth Flora, Father-Noah Henry Flora, Brother-Harvey Flora, Brother-Earl Flora, Brother-Donald Flora, Brother- Carl Flora, Sister-Hazel Flora, Grandson-Darrin Crooks. SERVICES: Mr. Flora has been cremated. Memorial services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary, 10:00 a.m., Wednesday January 6, 2010.
