Francis Edward "Frank" Mastel

Francis Edward “Frank” Mastel, 72, of Rantoul, passed away, Sunday, November 19, 2021, at AdventHealth, Shawnee Mission. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Wellsville Cemetery, Wellsville, Kansas. Frank was born February 4, 1949, in Edgeley, North Dakota, the son of Frank and Magdelena (Gefre) Mastel. He lived in Rantoul since 2004 moving from Ottawa where he lived from 1987 to 2004. Frank graduated from Edgeley High School in Edgeley, North Dakota with the class of 1967 and attended Valley City State College in Valley City, North Dakota. He was united in marriage to Diane Larson June 26, 1971, in Edgeley, she preceded him in death. Frank was later united in marriage to MaryAnn Price May 27, 2007, in Rantoul. She survives of the home. Frank was born to be an over the road truck driver and dedicated 50 years of his life on the road visiting every state in the nation except Alaska. In 2004 he started farming working crops and livestock. This past year Frank shared his passion of truck driving working as a CDL training instructor at Johnson County Community College. He served in the North Dakota National Guard from 1966 to 1973. Frank loved his horse Jake and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He enjoyed spending time with his family and spoke to his brothers and sisters daily. He especially enjoyed spending quality time with his bride MaryAnn at the water’s edge. Frank was preceded in death by his first wife, parents, son Ben Mastel, one brother and one sister. He is also survived by his children, Isaac Mastel (Erin) of Ohio, Megan Mastel of Edgerton, KS, Betsy Mastel (Thaddeus) of Ottawa, Amanda Wadkins (Justin) of Ottawa, Andrew Nitcher (Jill) of Pomona and Zachary Zentz of Rantoul; three brothers, three sisters, thirteen grandchildren, one great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
