Frances Estelle Schmoe was born to Ralph and Myrtle (Cress) Cooley on Sunday, September 21, 1919 in Talmage, Dickinson County, Kansas. She lived in the Lawrence, Kansas area until moving to Ottawa in 1952, where she made her home until her death on Friday, September 28, 2007, at the age of eighty-eight years. Frances graduated from St. George High School with the class of 1937, and from Grand Island Business College in Grand Island, Nebraska in 1939. She was a homemaker and was a child care provider for many children over the years. Frances was an avid Royals baseball and Kansas University basketball fan, and enjoyed the outdoors, including fishing, boating, and gardening. She had a special place in her heart for cats and enjoyed sewing, making quilts, playing cards with family and friends, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. In 1940 Frances was united in marriage with Gerald Millbern. They were later divorced. On February 21, 1954 she was united in marriage with Floyd Schmoe at Ottawa, Kansas. He survives of their home. She is also survived by four sons, Gary Millbern and his wife, Donna, of Toronto, Kansas, Roger Millbern and his wife, Ginger, of Ottawa, Ronald Schmoe of Freeport, Texas, and David Schmoe and his wife, Karen, of Edgerton, Kansas; two sisters, Ruth Cramer of Manhattan, Kansas and Elizabeth Price and her husband, Ralph, of Norco, California; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Verl Cooley, Joe Cooley and Oliver Cooley; two sisters, Pauline Ballentine and Helen Walker, and a grandson, Danny Millbern. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2007. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Mark Halford IN STATE: Mrs. Schmoe will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Monday to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 7 to 8 Monday evening.
