Frances Elizabeth Gregg was born September 3, 1914, at Ottawa, Kansas. She was the daughter of Jasper and Nettie (Hicks) Davies. She grew up in Princeton and moved to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas in 1934, where she made her home, until her death Sunday, April 25, 2004, at the age of eighty-nine years. Frances graduated from Princeton High School with the class of 1934. In the 1970's, she attended Ottawa University. She was a lifelong homemaker. She also worked in social services for Headstart in Ottawa seventeen years, retiring in 1986. She was a lifelong member of First Christian Church in Ottawa. She was also a Brownie Scout leader, member of Army Mothers, and member of Ottawa Antique Car Club. Frances really enjoyed helping others and would drive those who needed transporting to out-of-town doctor's appointments. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, crocheting, and playing the organ and piano. She liked working in her yard, caring for her garden, raising flowers, and traveling. Frances' greatest enjoyment came from her family. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. On July 21, 1934, Frances was united in marriage with Jesse Gregg at Paola, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1984. She is also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Juanita Eneihen; infant daughter, Shirley Jean Gregg; brother, George Davies; and two sisters, Margaret Zook and Mary Alice Richards. Mrs. Gregg is survived by her daughter, Gladys Anderson of Garnett; two sons, Lee Gregg and his wife, Cathy of Pittsburg, Kansas, William 'Bill' Gregg and his wife, Janice, of Ottawa; sister, Grace Hill of Parsons, Kansas; eleven grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2004. IN STATE: Mrs. Gregg will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7:30 to 8:30 Tuesday evening.
