Floyd D. Stephens, age 63, passed away at his home in Parker, Kansas on Wednesday December 7, 2011. Floyd was born in Paola December 21, 1947 to Viola Marie Hayen Stephens and Mervin L. Stephens Sr. He attended the Paola School Systems. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966 and served in the Vietnam War in 1967 to 1968. He returned to Paola and married Phyllis Kay Easterling November 23, 1968 and resided in the Paola area. He was in the Army Reserves for many years and discharged honorably in 1986 with two purple hearts and many other medals. He and Phyllis ran their own janitorial service for the last 30 years. Floyd enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, taking road trips to Branson and various other attractions, playing cards, watching and hunting deer, and fishing. He loved his wife and family very much and he had a very, very big heart. Floyd is survived by his wife Phyllis Stephens of the home with his beloved dogs Rags and Ben; two brothers Mervin Stephens Jr. and Donald Stephens; four sisters Edna M. Maine, Carolyn Hughes, Luella Hughes, and Barbara Hutchison; many many nieces and nephews Tim L. Stephens, Matthew R. Stephens, Michael L. Stephens, Rick Stephens, Robert Stephens, Stacey Miller, Jim Burke, Carrie Shepard, Windy Kinder, Sherry Lee, Donnie Ralph Nickell, and Crissy Nickell; and many many great and great great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Mervin L. Stephens Sr.; mother Viola Marie Hayen Stephens, twin brother Lloyd G. Stephens and brother Robert E. Stephens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Floyd Stephens Memorial.
