Floyd Junior Lichty was born on Friday, November 11, 1921, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was the son of Floyd Byron and Blenda 'Bonnie' (Watts) Lichty. At the age of four, Floyd's family moved to Topeka, Kansas. In 1956, he moved to Overland Park, Kansas, and Edgerton, Kansas in 1977. In late 1994, Floyd moved to Wellsville, Kansas, where he made his home, until his death on Friday, December 2, 2005, at the age of eighty-four years. Floyd attended Topeka (Kansas) High School with the class of 1939. He received his degree following his military service. Floyd served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946, during World War II, attaining the rank of Staff Sgt. The awards and citations he received included Good Conduct, American Theater, EAMET Ribbon, and Victory Ribbon. From 1946 to 1953, he served in the National Guard as Sgt. 1st Class. He worked in Federal service thirty-seven years, as a Federal Meat Inspector for United States Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1978. Prior to being an inspector, he worked at the V. A. Hospital and Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka. He was a member of Clearfield United Methodist Church in rural Douglas County, Kansas. Floyd was a devoted father and grandfather, who loved spending time with his family. He also loved his pets, enjoyed traveling, and was quite creative in woodcrafts. Mr. Lichty is survived by three daughters, Vickie Bohi of Wellsville, Kansas, Alida Torrence of Wallingford, Pennsylvania, Trudi Lichty of Platte, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Sean Oberg, Wendi Oberg, Lauren Bohi, James Bohi, Jr., Jacob Bohi, Brett Torrence, Leigh Torrence, Will Torrence; three great-grandchildren, Noah Oberg, Andrew Oberg, Nathanael Oberg; and, step great-grandchild, Jacob Niemyer. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2005. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Lichty at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Sunday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7:00 to 8:00 Monday evening.
