Floyd Elmer Higdon

December 28, 1936 — April 22, 2003

Floyd Elmer Higdon was born December 28, 1936, at Lane, Kansas. He was the son of C. Evrett and Mildred Mae (Carter) Higdon. A lifelong resident of Franklin County, Kansas, he made his home in Pomona, until his death Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at the age of sixty-six years. Floyd graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1954. He served in the Kansas National Guard. He attended United Methodist Church in Pomona. He was a member of Kansas City, Missouri Local #547 Teamsters Union and American Quarter Horse Association. He was a former director of the Franklin County Noxious Weed Department. For thirteen years, in the 1970's and early 1980's, he was a truck driver for B.O.W. (Burlington, Ottawa, Waverly) Express based in Kansas City, Missouri. In the late 1980's and early 1990's, he worked for U.S.D. 287 as a school custodian. For the past eleven years, he worked for Orscheln Town & Country Supply of Ottawa, as a custodian and truck driver. Floyd was a loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather and a faithful friend to many. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors, working in his garden and caring for his quarter horses. On February 12, 1961, Floyd was united in marriage with Juanita Thompson at Pomona. She survives of their home. He is also survived by two daughters, Leigh Ann Higdon and Rollinda Higdon, both of the home; son, Michael Floyd Higdon and his wife, Shirley, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister, Florence Millman and her husband, Johnnie, of Pomona; brother, Clarence H. Higdon and his wife, Sharon, of Ocala, Florida; grandson, Casey Lee Higdon; granddaughter, Olivia Rae Higdon; and, several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2003. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Glen Yancey. IN STATE: Mr. Higdon will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Thursday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Thursday evening. CEMETERY: Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Kansas Dialysis Services in Ottawa, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
