Floyd B. Hughes, age 82, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Tuesday, September 1, 2009. He was born on Friday, January 28, 1927, in Ottawa, Kansas. He was the son of Clarence E. and Bessie G. (Reed) Hughes. He was a lifelong resident of Ottawa. Floyd graduated from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1945. He was a self-employed carpenter and contractor in the construction business for more than forty years, with his twin brother, Lloyd, retiring in 1992. After World War II, Floyd served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948. He was with the occupation forces in Tokyo, Japan, also two months in Manila, Philippines. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Ottawa. On November 9, 1952, Floyd was united in marriage with Beverly Lou Heckman in Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of their home. His survivours include his: Wife-Beverly L. Hughes of the home Son-Gary L. Hughes & his wife, Christy, of Ottawa, Kansas Son-Chris A. Hughes & his wife, Noy, of Sumter, South Carolina Sister-Juaneta F. Heckman of Ottawa, Kansas Five Grandchildren-Shannon Hughes, Matthew Hughes, Paul Hughes, Allie Hughes, Terrence “Terry” Hughes Three Great-Grandchildren-Seth Hughes, Wyatt Hughes, Logan Hamic He was preceded in death by his: Father-Clarence E. Hughes Mother-Bessie G. (Reed) Hughes Brother-Oren M. Hughes Twin Brother-Lloyd B. Hughes Sister-Elsie M. Tillery Sister-Ruth M. Hughes SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from First Baptist Church of Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2009. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Hughes at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening.
