Flossie M. (Bennett) Doan, 72, of Osawatomie, Kansas passed away March 9, 2018 at Olathe Medical Center. Flossie Mae Doan was born on May 25, 1945 in West Virginia. She has told me stories of the one room schoolhouse where she attended in West Virginia. She has seven siblings that she helped raise as she was next to the oldest of her siblings. She has three sisters that were able to visit the week of her passing; Jane Hartly from Pennsylvania, Wanda Garcia from Arizona, and Mary Parks from southern Missouri. Her other sister Mable passed from cancer also. She has three brothers, Arthur Bennett and Robert Bennett both from Arizona and Carl Bennett from Utah. She has one son, Earl J. Doan and myself the daughter Brenda Stephens, and three grandchildren Riley Ballinger, Laura Ballinger and Kurt Ballinger. Moms favorite hobby was fishing, she loved to be by the lake and fish any time that she could. When we were both living in Iowa we could catch fish, but she would not touch the worms, so I would bait her hook as long as she could touch the fish for me and get them off the hook. We had lots of great teamwork there! She also loved campfires and roasting marshmallows over the fire. She loved to walk on the trails in Iowa and here in Kansas. She also had fun going to auctions and yard sales looking for a good deal. She was the queen of the dollar box and always had tons of stuff for anyone that wanted to help load the boxes. She had fun when she lived in Delaware buying older furniture and restoring them and then putting the items out for resale. She was married to my father Earl Doan Jr., he passed in 2002 and she never remarried. They had lots of great times together and spent lots of time with the grandkids. They would take them out to the lake and spend as much time with them as possible. She was a person that would help anyone that she possibly could and cherished her grandkids. She was a kind and loving woman. She was a big part of my dad’s family too. Dad’s sisters were like her sisters too. She considered everyone on his side her family too. She won the first battle with cancer in the late 90s. This cancer was aggressive, and it was too large and took her away from us way too soon. She passed peacefully into heaven and I know we will see her again one day!!! Please leave your favorite memories of mom on the site so we can read and cherish them forever, as she will be forever in our hearts.
