Florine S. Anderson, age 97, of Williamsburg, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021, at Richmond Healthcare & Rehabilitation. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, April 18, 2021, following the regularly scheduled Sunday morning service at Williamsburg United Methodist Church. Inurnment South Park Cemetery, Columbia City, Indiana, to be held later. Florine was born May 12, 1923, in Flat Gap, Virginia, the daughter of Rev. Thurston and Matilda Sturgill. She graduated from Pound High School, in Pound, Virginia. Florine enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve (Women's Reserve), better known as the WAVES (for Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service). Florine was united in marriage to Buron Armstrong Murray in 1943, this marriage ended in divorce. Florine was united in marriage to Shelby Schoonover in the early-1950’s. He preceded her in death in the late 1990’s. Florine married Earl “Andy” Anderson in 2000, in Williamsburg, KS. He preceded her in death in 2014. Florine was employed with Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach, California, processing orders for military airplane parts. She attended the Williamsburg United Methodist Church and was a member of Union Chapter No. 15, Order of the Eastern Star of Williamsburg/Ottawa. Florine enjoyed reading, growing flowers and had a green thumb. She was also preceded in death by a brother Rev. Carlos Sturgill, sister Mabel Stokes and a grandson. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Murray Gallardo Xi of Santee, CA; four siblings, Helen Stevenson of Los Angeles, CA, Dillard Sturgill (Peggy) of Indiana, Dan Sturgill (Sharon) also of Indiana, and Jewell Clem of TN; five step-children, Larry Anderson M.D. (Loretta) of Wellington, KS, Loretta Teagarden (George) of La Cygne, KS, Loraine Wilson (Mark) of KCMO, Leland Anderson (Jackie) of Neodesha, KS, and Lowell Anderson (Teresa) of Williamsburg, KS; several grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
