Floretta Steward, age 98, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Monday, May 24, 2010, at Richmond Care Center in Richmond, Kansas. She was born on Sunday, March 24, 1912, in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Carl and Bertha (Thompson) Peterman. She lived in the Centropolis, Kansas area in the early 1930’s, moving to Ottawa in 1985. Floretta graduated from Garnett High School with the class of 1930. She then attended Business College. She was a homemaker and also worked in the office for Warner Manufacturing in the early 1930’s. On Sunday, February 19, 1933, Floretta was united in marriage with Donald Steward in the Centropolis area. He preceded her in death on January 19, 1983. She is survived by her: Daughter-Judy Cates of Ottawa, Kansas; Nephew-Max Steward of Yakima, Washington; Niece-Pat Mlady of Las Vegas, Nevada; Niece-Lois Schaap of Yakima, Washington; Grandchild-Bryon Cates of Pomona, Kansas; Grandchild-Ray Cates of Overland Park, Kansas and a Grandchild-Terri Hook of Ottawa, Kansas. Floretta was preceded in death by her: Parents-Carl and Bertha (Thompson) Peterman; Husband-Donald Steward; Brother-Carl Peterman, Jr. and a Sister-Leonel Stewart. SERVICES: Cremation is planned. Graveside Inurnment Services will be held at Union Cemetery, northwest of Centropolis, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2010. CEMETERY: Union Cemetery, northwest of Centropolis, Kansas.
