Evelyn F. Geiss, 87, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014, at Eudora Medicalodge. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at Highland Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Geiss from 8:00 A.M. to noon Tuesday, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Evelyn was born Thursday, October 7, 1926, in Ottawa, the daughter of Lee and Verne (Gibson) Rundell. She was a near lifelong Ottawa resident. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1944 and continued her education at Ottawa University, graduating in 1948, with a bachelor’s of science degree in chemistry. Evelyn was united in marriage with George C. Geiss, Jr. April 23, 1948 in Independence, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 6, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her infant son, Danny Charles Geiss; parents; and brother, Lawrence “Don” Rundell. Survivors include her five children, Rebecca “Becky” Chappell and husband John of Lawrence, Michael Geiss and wife Marsha of Russellville, Arkansas, Judy Weber and husband Mark of Ottawa, Jeff Geiss and wife Paula of Emporia, and Sherri Leighty and husband Earl of Independence, Missouri; brother, Robert Rundell of Solvang, California; sister, Edna Kaub of Ottawa; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was a devoted lifelong homemaker who always put her family first. She was an active member of the North Baptist Church where she played the piano, taught Sunday school and helped in the nursery.
