Evelyn Elaine Woodrome was born December 17, 1940, northwest of Osawatomie, Kansas, in the house where she grew up. She was the daughter of Ernest and Florence (McDowell) Hicks. Elaine lived in rural Osawatomie, Kansas, eighteen years; St. Louis, Missouri, three months; Ottawa, one year; and, Junction City, Kansas, two years, before returning to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, in 1962, where she made her home, until her death Thursday, March 3, 2005, at the age of sixty-four years. Elaine was a student, her first seven grades, at Stockwell Country Grade School, Miami County, Kansas, and grades eight through twelve at Osawatomie (Kansas) High School, graduating in 1958. She was a housewife forty-five years. She was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church, Osawatomie; Calvary Baptist Church, Junction City, Kansas; and, Calvary Baptist Church, Ottawa. A kind, warm, generous lady, she enjoyed being actively involved as a youth sponsor, with her husband, seventeen years; teaching fourth grade girl's Sunday School class, twenty-five years; and, singing in the Church Choir many years. Elaine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who greatly valued, and loved caring for, her family. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed quilting, and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. On June 14, 1959, Elaine was united in marriage with Gale Woodrome at Osawatomie, Kansas. He survives of their home. She is also survived by two daughters, Marcia Aguiar and her husband, Manuel, of Medina, Ohio, Melanie Bowman and her husband, Preston, of Olathe, Kansas; and, four grandchildren, Garrett Aguiar, Brett Aguiar, Brittany Bowman, and Lauren Bowman. Mrs. Woodrome is preceded in death by her parents; paternal grandparents; and, maternal grandparents. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, Ottawa, 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2005. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Colin Richards. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Woodrome at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, and 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, where the family will meet with friends 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday.
