Evelyn Elizabeth (Staadt) Humphrey, 85, of Ottawa, Kansas, went home to be with her Lord after a long illness Sunday, September 27, 2015, at Olathe Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 2, 2015, at Calvary Baptist Church. Family will meet with friends from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Thursday, October 1, 2015, at the church. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Evelyn, an identical twin, was born Saturday, March 15, 1930, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of John Fredrick, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth (Fisher) Staadt. She has been a lifelong Franklin County resident, graduating from Ottawa High School with the class of 1948. Evelyn continued her education, for two years, at Ottawa University. Evelyn was united in marriage to Leonard Humphrey June 7, 1950, in Richter, Kansas. He survives of the home after sixty-five years of marriage. Other survivors include her four children, Kenneth Humphrey and wife Rebecca of Duluth, Georgia, Lyle Humphrey and wife Joyce of Kansas City, Missouri, Gary Humphrey and wife Donna of Ottawa, and Laneita Brundage and husband Tom of Travelers Rest, South Carolina; sister, Lyndell Beauchamp of Ottawa; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Staadt; sister, Dorothy Linton; two brothers-in-law, Fred Linton and Jack Beauchamp; and granddaughter, Eliza Humphrey. Evelyn was a devoted lifelong homemaker. She worked as a bookkeeper for Farmers Union Store in Pomona during the late 1960’s while her children were in school. In 1966, Evelyn accepted the Lord as her Savior. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was the organist playing 25 years. She was also a former member and pianist of the Richter United Methodist Church, and former member and leader of Junior Judgers 4-H Club. Evelyn loved all the family especially the grandchildren and now the great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy was sewing and quilting. She was always sewing or making something for someone, never sitting without anything to do. A quilt has been made for most of the family members, as well as dolls, Christmas tree ornaments, handmade cards, gifts, and pot holders. She was a master gardener.
