Evelyn Doris Bond

Our beloved Evelyn Doris Bond died peacefully surrounded by family Monday, January 19, after a brief hospitalization. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2015 at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Williamsburg United Methodist Church. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery, Williamsburg, Kansas. Evelyn lived in Williamsburg since 1954 with Forrest, her husband of more than 68 years. For nearly 40 years she worked in Ottawa as a registered jeweler. She was deeply involved in the civic and religious life of Williamsburg. Evelyn was a member of the Lions Club, Eastern Star and was very active in the Methodist Church. Evelyn, the youngest of four sisters, was born October 12, 1928, in Wiseman, Arkansas. She graduated from Violet Hill High School. In 1946, she married Forrest Bond and moved to Nortonville, Kansas. From there, they moved to Ottawa in 1947 where she worked at OK Photo Shop while Forrest attended Ottawa University. While in Ottawa, she and her husband, Forrest, took on the responsibility of raising four of Forrest’s younger siblings. When Forrest accepted a teaching position with the Williamsburg schools, the couple and his two youngest sisters, Lila and Sharon, moved to Williamsburg where Evelyn resided until her death. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, May (Moser) and Owther Rogers; and her three sisters, Avis, Anna Lee and Delaphine. She is survived by her husband, Forrest; and many nieces and nephews including, Sue Forbes and her husband, Don of Lees Summit, Missouri.
