Eva Leone Barton

July 25, 1932 — December 23, 2024

Centropolis

Eva Leone Shuck was born July 25, 1932 in Douglas County Kansas. She peacefully changed time for eternity on December 23, 2024 at her home near Centropolis, Kansas, surrounded by her children, making her earthly sojourn here 92 years, 4 months, and 28 days. She grew up on a farm in the Willlow Springs district. Her family had the unique experience of living in a home shared with Uncle Charles and Aunt Alda Shuck and their children, Darrell, Barbara (Knaus), and Duane until she was thirteen years old, creating a strong bond between them all. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized into the Old German Baptist Brethren Church on July 27, 1947 at the age of fifteen to which she remained faithful.

On June 9, 1963, she was united in marriage with Merlin Verle Barton at the home of her parents, Lloyd and Lillian Shuck. Together they shared the joys and sorrows of life for over sixty-one years, on their farm in Franklin County Kansas, until Dad’s passing on October 3, 2024. This union was blessed with one son and three daughters. Dad and Mom’s lifelong occupation was dairy farming. They were called to the deacon’s office in the Eight Mile district on February 1, 1964 and they served faithfully for as long as their health permitted. She was a loving, supportive wife throughout their marriage. Their love and appreciation for each other was an inspiration.

Mom was an exceptional mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. We have all be confident of the depth of her love for us. Her prayer was that we would be faithful to our calling in the Lord, and that the future generations would continue in the faith.

Recognizing her failing health, Mom asked for, and together with Dad, received the anointing on December 17, 2023, gaining much comfort. Although we will miss her, we know that a life lived for the Lord will continue to be an example for us all! We are thankful that we were allowed to have as many years with her as we did.

She is survived by her children, Phillip and wife Loreta, daughters Christine Wray and husband Dennis, Nancy Wray and husband Jerry, and Lori Lesher; fifteen grandchildren; forty-three great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Howard and JoAnne Shuck; sister-in-law Nine Flora; brother-in-law Harold Riffey and wife Bonnie; and many nieces and nephews all of who will miss her greatly.

Also proceeding her in death were her parents; her parents=in-law; son-in-law Jay Lesher; grandson Jamin Wray; brother and sister-in-law Warren and Elsie Shuck; brothers-in-law Chester and wife Harriet, Melvin and wife Ruth Olive; sisters-in-law Nellie Frantz and husband Virgil, Doris Hopkins and husband Arthur, Oella Edgecomb and husband Paul, June Kinsley and husband Raymond, Fern Brooks and husband Owen, Martha Riffey; and brother-in-law Chet Flora.

“We wait in hope, on the promise given – we will meet up there, in our home in heaven.”
