Eugene Vernon Yohe

May 31, 1922 — February 10, 2003

Eugene Vernon Yohe, age 80, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Monday, February 10, 2003, at Richmond Care Center in Richmond, Kansas. Gene has lived in the Ottawa area since 1961, moving here from California. He had moved to California from Ottawa in 1955. He worked as a switchman for Union Pacific in California, and Missouri Pacific in the early 1960's. He retired due to injury. Mr. Yohe served as a Sergeant in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He served with the 96th Division in Okinawa and the South Pacific. He received a Bronze Star with Three Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901, Ottawa. In June of 1946, Gene was united in marriage with Mary L. Wilson at Osawatomie. She preceded him in death. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2003, at Leavenworth National Cemetery, with Military Honors by Combined Arms Command, Ft. Leavenworth. IN STATE: Mr. Yohe will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday to the service hour. CEMETERY: Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Midland Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
