Eugene M. Stevenson

Eugene Merton 'Gene' Stevenson was born on Thursday, December 8th, 1932, in Richmond, Kansas. He was the son of Merton Ralph and Dorothy M. (Macklin) Stevenson. Gene lived in Kansas City, Missouri from 1956 to 1970, and Hillsdale, Kansas eight years, prior to moving to Wellsville, in Miami County, Kansas in 1978, where he made his home, until his death Thursday, October 6, 2005, at the age of seventy-two years. Gene graduated from Rantoul High School with the class of 1951. He worked as an armature winder and electrician for Kornfeld-Thorpe Electric Co., Kansas City, Missouri, thirty-one years, and Mid-America Electric, Lenexa, Kansas, eight years, retiring in 1997. Gene served in the United States Army in the early 1950's, during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sgt. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 124, Kansas City, Missouri. Even though Gene was retired, he kept very busy. He was always working around the house. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who greatly enjoyed their family gatherings and spending time with his children and grandchildren. On November 3, 1956, Gene was united in marriage with Marguerite Roberts in Kansas City, Missouri. She survives of their home. He is also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph E. 'Gene' and Leanne Stevenson of Paola, Mark A. & Rachal Stevenson of Wellsville; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Kyle Dye of Paola; brother and sister-in-law, John and Jean Stevenson of Marshfield, MO; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty Stevenson of Rantoul, Becky Stevenson of Rantoul, Marilyn and Carl Waltman of Pomona, Phyllis and Lee Johnson of Rantoul; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Stevenson was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dick and Bobby Stevenson; and sister, Nellon Stevenson. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 10, 2005. IN STATE: Mr. Stevenson will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and l:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 2:00 to 3:00 Sunday afternoon. CEMETERY: Ruhamah Cemetery, Rantoul, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to American Lung Association of Kansas, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
