Eugene Fladung

Eugene Francis Fladung, age 85, of Louisburg, KS, died at home on Friday, June 28, 2013, of natural causes. Gene was born on September 29, 1927, in Emporia, KS, the seventh of nine children born to Francis and Dorothea Fladung. Gene served in the United States Navy from 1945-1947, as a fireman 1st Class on the USS St. Paul out of NTS San Diego. After his honorable discharge he worked from 1948-1950 farming with cousins in Iowa; from 1951-1957 as a lineman around Tuscon, AZ; from 1958-1968 for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline in Emporia, KS and from 1968-1984 in Louisburg, KS. After his retirement from Panhandle he was a driver for the Louisburg Senior Center and had a lawn service from 1985-1994. Gene married Ruth O'Laughlin on November 20, 1965, at St. Charles Catholic Church in KCMO. His hobbies included gardening, boating and waterskiing, hunting, traveling (especially to Tuscon and to visit his daughters and their families), reading, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Louisburg, KS, the American Legion Post 250,was a 3rd Degree with the Knights of Columbus, and on the board of the Louisburg Senior Center. He was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Dorothea Fladung; his son Eugene Francis "Frankie" Fladung; and his siblings Eileen Lowenstein, Charlotte Korte, Sister Mary Jane Fladung, OSB, and Herman and James Fladung. Eugene is survived by the his wife, Ruth; his children, Linda (and Steve) Hofstad of Anchorage, AK; Diane (and Lt. Col Todd) Giefer of Ehweiler, Germany; and James Fladung of Louisburg, KS; his eight grandchildren, Nolan, Shelby, Erin, Sydney, Isaak, Holden, Cassady, and Frankie; his siblings John Fladung, Margie Korte and Rosemany Hogan.
