Ethelyn Maxine Reed was born November 28, 1915, at Quenemo, Kansas. She was the daughter of Joseph Franklin and Clara Francis (Mumma) Elliott. A lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident, Maxine grew up in Richmond and moved to Ottawa in 1934, where she made her home until her death Saturday, August 17, 2002, at the age of eighty-six years. She attended Richmond High School with the class of 1933. Maxine was a lifelong homemaker and an Avon representative for twenty-five years, retiring in November of 1990. Over the years, she enjoyed acquiring a wide variety of the Avon collectibles. She was a member of the Ottawa Free Methodist Church. Maxine also attended the Ottawa Church of the Nazarene and the Ottawa Assembly of God. Maxine was very active in church work and loved reading her Bible. She was always a very happy person with a good sense of humor. She enjoyed watching T.V., especially, her favorite soap operas and the Kansas City Royals. On April 23, 1934, Maxine was united in marriage with Ernest Raymond Reed at Ottawa. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1988. She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, Terry Elliott Reed; five brothers, George Elliott, Sr., Chester Elliott, Garland Elliott, Cecil Elliott, Earl Elliott; two sisters, Pauline Sims, Mildred Elliott; and, grandson, Scott R. Marks. She is survived by two daughters, Connie Marks of Olathe, Paulette Carlson and her husband, Chris, of McLouth; three grandsons, Michael Marks and his wife, Amy, Bradley Carlson and his wife, Amy, Jason Carlson and his wife, Carolyn; granddaughter, Shelley Marks; three great-grandsons, Adam Carlson, Dawson Marks, Mason Carlson; three great-granddaughters, Abbigayle Carlson, Zoe Pulford, Samantha Marks; and, two sisters-in-law, Helen Reed of Sacramento, California, Peg Smith of Lyndon, Kansas. SERVICES: Family and friends will meet at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 21, 2002 for Graveside services. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Steven Iwerson. IN STATE: Mrs. Reed will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 AM Tuesday to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening.
