Ethel B. Hruska age 94 of Prairie Village, passed away Wed. May 20th at Sunrise of Overland Park. Funeral Service will be Sat May 23rd at 2:00PM with visitation at 1:00PM, Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel, burial Osawatomie Cemetery, memorials to Alzheimer"s Asc. To leave a special message go to penwellgabel.com. Ethel was born Feb. 19, 1915 in Louisburg, Kansas to Charles A. and Margaret Boyd Abney. She graduated Paola High School in 1934 and during WWII she worked as a secretary for the Miami County Court House, and the Western Spirit Newspaper. Christmas day, 1938, Ethel was united in marriage to Frank Hruska in Paola. They made their home in Prairie Village for over 40 years and she was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Prairie Village. Ethel loved antiques and was also an accomplished water color artist, studying under renown regional artist, J.R. Hamil. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four brothers, John Delbert, William Gloyd, Benjamin Charles, and Merle Oliver Abney. Survivors are a foster daughter, sister-and-brother-in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
