Ethel Elizabeth Barnes

Ethel Elizabeth Barnes, age 94, of Louisburg, KS passed away April 15, 2018 at North Point Nursing Home, Paola, KS. She was born on October 7, 1923 in Louisburg, KS, the daughter of Cleo William and Mabel (Hink) Johnston. She was united in marriage to Walter Frederick Barnes, Sr. on June 28, 1943 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Louisburg, KS. Ethel was part owner of Barnes Electric, Plumbing and Heating with her husband Fred for 50 plus years. She graduated from Louisburg High School with the class of 1941. She was a member of the Miami County Historical Society and the John P. Hand Post # 250 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing Bingo, quilting, growing flowers and bird watching. Ethel loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren – great and great-great. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Frederick Barnes, Sr.; two sisters, Wylda J. Fountain and Donna Raye Johnston and one brother, Edward O. Johnston. Survivors include her son, Walter Fred Barnes, Jr.; two daughters, Joyce (Keith) Virgin and Teresa (Gary) Haney, sister, Dorothy L. Cook and blessed with six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Dengel and Son Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at First Christian Church, Louisburg, KS. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
