ESTHER MILREE WILSON Patterson, age 92, passed away August 27, 2012. Esther was born December 10, 1919 in Louisburg, Kansas, the oldest child and only daughter of David A. Wilson and Phon Kilgore Wilson. She grew up in Louisburg, attending Louisburg schools, the Ursuline Academy in Paola, Baker University in Baldwin City, and graduating from the University of Kansas in 1942. She married John William Patterson in Louisburg on August 30, 1942. She was a secondary high school Spanish teacher, employed by the Richardson, Texas, school district until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Richardson and Texas Retired Teachers Assn., Craft Guild of Dallas, Spinners and Handweavers Guild, Dallas Museum of Art, Miami County Genealogical Society, and Kansas Alumni Assn. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, John Merle Patterson; her parents; and her brother, Gene Wilson. Survivors include daughter, Linda Patterson and husband Craig Humphrey of Kennewick, Washington; daughter, Gayla Lewis and husband John of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren: Stephanie Raborn, Craig Raborn, Timothy Lewis, and Christopher Lewis, in addition to six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Wilson of Louisburg, Kansas, and numerous nieces and nephews. A joint memorial service for Esther and John Patterson will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, September 30, 2012, at the First Christian Church of Louisburg, Kansas, followed by a graveside service. Donations may be made to the John Merle Patterson Scholarship Fund at the University of Kansas, payable to the KU Endowment Association, P.O. Box 928, Lawrence, Kansas 66044.
