Esther L. "Lea" Lyman

Esther Leona “Lea” Lyman, 67, of Ottawa, KS, passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, May 20, 2022, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Graveside inurnment 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, May 25th, at Fort Scott National Cemetery, 900 E. National Ave., Fort Scott, KS 66701 Lea was born March 7, 1955, in Garnett, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Gurtha (Jordan) Kuiken She grew up in Richmond and lived in Lyndon and Topeka before moving in 2004 to Ottawa. She graduated from Central Heights High School with the class of 1973. On May 21, 1978, Lea was united in marriage to Daniel Lyman in Princeton, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 29, 2020. Lea was a devoted homemaker and was employed at HD Lee as a seamstress, Walmart in Topeka as a department manager, and was a home daycare provider. Lea loved her family and grandchildren and the time they spent together. She loved to see her old friends at reunions and enjoyed collecting snowmen and birdhouses. She enjoyed her flower garden, cooking, baking, reading, and watching old game shows. Lea was known for coordinating her outfits with her many Vera Bradley purses. She was also preceded in death by her father, brother Bobby Kuiken, mother-in-law Martha Robinson, brother-in-law Tim Buis, and daughter-in-law Tara Lyman. Survivors include four sons, Aaron (Lisa) Lyman of Topeka, Craig Lyman and Samantha Glenn of Topeka, Kevin (Sydney) Lyman of Ottawa, and Clint (Hannah) Lyman also of Ottawa; mother Gurtha (Jim) McCrea of Ottawa; siblings, Lori (Jimmie) Jones of Ottawa, Kathy (Tom) DeVoe of Garnett, and Kaye Buis of Jerseyville, Illinois; and nine grandchildren, Trent, Nicholas, Hanna, Ethan, Brooklynn, Hadden, Maci, Julianna, and Brennan.
