Estel Y. Jones

Estel Y. Jones, 96, of Ottawa, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018, at Village West. Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the First Baptist Church. Inurnment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Estel was born Thursday, December 1, 1921 in Ottawa, the daughter of Ferry C. and Elizabeth (West) Johnson. She was a near lifelong resident of Ottawa. Estel graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1939 and attended Ottawa University. She was a member of First Baptist Church and member and Past Matron of Union Chapter #15, Order of the Eastern Star, both in Ottawa. Estel was united in marriage with Harold F. Jones September 21, 1975, at Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ferry and Elizabeth Johnson. Estel worked as a teacher at Fouts School in Franklin County and in Burlington, Kansas. She was employed in the business office at Ottawa University from 1944 until retiring in 1977, first as a secretary and then as an accountant. Estel enjoyed making quilts, doing latch hook, and working puzzles (especially cryptograms). She also enjoyed walking and taking trips with her husband.
