Ernest Sink

Ernest Paul 'Ernie' Sink was born December 13, 1915, in rural Pomona, Kansas. He was the son of John Henry and Laura Ellen (Bean) Sink. A lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident, he moved from Pomona to the Baxter community in 1942, where he made his home until his death Monday, October 8, 2001, at the age of eighty-five years. He graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1937. He was a lifelong farmer and stockman. He was a member of Aerie Lodge #2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Ottawa, and Ottawa Lodge #803, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. When Ernie was young, he enjoyed growing up on the dairy farm. He loved playing cards and going to 'the boats'. He liked fishin' and loved hunting. Ernie loved visiting with people and was a friend to everyone, a very special person, especially to Marion. On October 31, 1942, Ernest was united in marriage with Iva Mae Bethurum at Harrisonville, Missouri. She preceded him in death September 29, 1973. On November 7, 1974, he was united in marriage with Betty Brooks. They were later divorced. On June 9, 1996, he was united in marriage with Marion Vanderslice at Crystal Beach, Texas. She survives of their home. Also surviving are his son, John Lee Sink and his wife, Virgie, of Ottawa; daughter, Lola Mae Broers and her husband, Gene, of Wellsville; brother, Vern Sink of Centropolis; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Iva Mae; and two brothers, James Earl Sink in 1988 and Claude John Sink in 1990. Services will be held Friday, October 12, 2001, at 10:00AM at Calvary Baptist Church at 925 W. 7th St., Ottawa, KS. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas
