Erika Schmidt

Erika Schmidt, 90, of Paola, passed away November 16, 2013 at Louisburg Care Center, Louisburg, Kansas. Erika was born on June 8, 1923 to Konrad and Anna (Bialik) Pasczella in Laband, Germany. She married Friedrich K. Schmidt in Germany on November 21, 1942. They moved to America with their two children residing in La Cygne, Kansas for a year before making Paola, Kansas their home. Soon three more children were added to the family. Erika was a stay at home mother for many years. She worked at Friendship Manor Nursing Home for 7 years, and then worked as the dietitian at Holy Trinity Catholic School for 24 years. She was a GREAT COOK! After retiring from Holy Trinity Catholic School, she went to work for USD 368 in Food Service for almost 7 years. She is a devoted catholic and a member of Holy Trinity Parish since 1955. Erika was preceded in death by her loving husband Friedrich who passed away on February 26, 1998 and an infant granddaughter Britni Blubaugh. She is survived by her sons Wolfgang Schmidt (Tammy) of Easton, KS, Joachim Schmidt of Paola, KS, Bob Schmidt (Manijeh) of Folsom, CA, and Mark Schmidt of Paola, KS; daughter Betty Blubaugh (Sam) of Parsons, KS; six grandchildren Peter, Jennifer, Spencer, Erik, Luke, and Ryan; and six great grandchildren Aleana, Isabella, Charlie, Thomas, John, and Tommy.
