Emma Jane Stottlemire, 83, Ottawa, Kan., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa. Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Stottlemire 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, to the service hour, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family plans to meet with friends one hour before services. Interment is planned for Ruhamah Cemetery, Rantoul, Kan. Jane was born at home Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1930, in rural Rantoul, Kan., the daughter of Marion and Blanche (Mills) Vail. She was a lifelong Franklin county resident. She graduated from Rantoul High School with the class of 1947. Jane was united in marriage with Ellis Ray “Bud” Stottlemire May 29, 1947, in Ottawa, Kan. He preceded her in death Aug. 10, 1978. Survivors include two sons, Donald and his wife, Becky, and Tom and his wife, Debbie, all of Rantoul; grandchildren, Rod Stottlemire and his wife, Sheri, Oskaloosa, Tony Stottlemire and his wife, Michelle, Ottawa, Jackie Williams, Tonganoxie, and Alexis Bones and her husband, Heath, Princeton; great-grandchildren, Shawn, Bryce, Emma and Piper Stottlemire, Nick and Alex Williams, Chase and Blake Bones. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sisters, Evelyn Vail, Ila Mae Whirley and Doris Hicks; and brother, Harold Dean Vail. Jane worked in the 1980s and 1990s as a waitress at the L & L Café, and Ottawa University in food service until her retirement in 2008. She was a member of Ruhamah Baptist Church in Rantoul, Kan. Jane was a devoted homemaker, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her trips to the casino with friends and family. She was always dedicated to keeping her house and yard in perfect order. She looked forward each Christmas to hosting a Christmas Eve party for the entire family, serving homemade chili and cinnamon rolls and reading “The Night Before Christmas” to all her grandchildren. Jane will be remembered as a kind and caring person who loved, supported and cared for her family throughout her life. She will be deeply missed and remain in the hearts and thoughts of her family and friends forever.
