Emma Gwendolyn Mckaig

Emma Gwendolyn 'Gwen' McKaig was born Monday, October 18, 1915, at New Salem, Illinois. She was the daughter of Albert Eugene and Nellie Adele (Moore) Girard. Gwen lived in Illinois, then moved to Columbia, Missouri; Pressonville, Kansas, which was just outside of Ottawa on Hwy. 68; and into Ottawa in about 1941. She moved to Williamsburg, Kansas, in about 1978, where she made her home, until her death Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at the age of eighty-nine years. Gwen attended schools in Illinois. She worked about seventeen years, from the time of the flood, at Irwin's Gift Shop and then at Norge Village for fourteen to fifteen years, both in Ottawa. Gwen enjoyed working all types of puzzles and liked to go for car rides. She loved making Christmas candy and was an excellent cook. Her grandkids will miss her 'swiss steak' and delicious desserts. She was so devoted to her family. She loved spending time with all her grandchildren and kept busy mending her grandsons' jeans. On February 7, 1934, Gwen was united in marriage with Alfred Allen McKaig at Columbia, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 4, 1972. She is also preceded in death by her parents; grandson, James L. 'Jim' Johnson; great-great-granddaughter, Dalley Lynn Butterfield; three sisters, Louise Dunham, Mildred Lytle, Alberta Hunt; and brother, Walter F. Gerard. Mrs. McKaig is survived by her daughter, Roberta Jean 'Bertie' Johnson and her husband, Roy, of Williamsburg; five grandchildren, Debra Lynn Aubert, Roy Ronald 'Ron' Johnson, Jr., Pamela Jean Rapp, Robert Allen Johnson, John Lee Johnson; twelve great-grandchildren, Kellie Johnson, Kylie Ericson, Amanda Jean Holmes, April Dawn Butterfield, Ashley Nicole Butterfield, Dana Brooke Johnson, Crystal Lynn Karr, Jared Allen Johnson, James Robert Johnson, Joshua Reed Johnson, Errik Johnson, Clint Johnson; two step-great-grandchildren, Ryan Dodd, Brandy Dodd; and seven great-great grandchildren. SERVICES: Family and friends will meet at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Miami County for graveside funeral services 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2005.
