Emily Agnes Ford

Emily Agnes Bowman Ford was born on Sunday, September 25, 1927, at the home of her paternal grandparents on a farm south of Cameron, Missouri, to Harold Dean Bowman and Martha Irene (Smith) Bowman.

Her parents moved to Cameron when she was eighteen months old and she attended all her twelve school years there, graduating from Cameron High School in 1945. She graduated from Chillicothe Business College and worked in Kansas City, Missouri as a bookkeeper.

Emily married Charles “Bud” Franklin Ford in 1946 and they celebrated fifty-seven years together until his death in 2003.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Glenn Bowman and wife Dorothy; her sister Marian Spivey; and granddaughter, Meghan Ford.

Emily is survived by three children, Rod Ford of Naperville, Illinois, Neil Ford and wife Joan of Tyler, Texas, Cathy Sutton and husband, Philip of Ottawa, Kansas; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; plus, several nieces and nephews.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ottawa and the women’s UMW. Emily was a member of the Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and she and her husband were co-Presidents of the hospital Auxiliary in Springdale, Arkansas, where they also delivered Meals on Wheels. She liked to play bridge, enjoyed sharing educational programs, and reading or listening to books throughout her life.

Emily passed at Rock Creek assisted care in Ottawa, Kansas, May 19, 2023.

Memorial graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Garnett Cemetery, Garnett, Kansas.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Ottawa First United Methodist Church or Prairie Paws Animal Shelter c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory Street, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
