Elva Lucille Cox was born on Wednesday, May 19, 1920, in Coffey County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Charles Leroy and Maude Alma (Traylor) Cox. Elva lived in Coffee County until moving to Topeka in 1937; the Indian reservation southwest of Mayetta, Kansas in 1942; a farm north of Williamsburg in 1946; and Ottawa in 1947. In 1949, she moved back to the family farm, returning to Ottawa in 1968, where she made her home, until her death on Friday, November 3, 2006, at the age of eighty-six years. Elva attended Coffee County schools. Ms. Cox worked thirty-five years as a machine operator at Mode O'Day in Ottawa until the plant closed. She continued to sew for others for many years. Elva was an avid gardener. She took very good care of all her plants inside and outside of the house. She was a wonderful seamstress and often made her own clothes. Most important to Elva was her loving family and friends, she was always there to help anyone who needed it. Elva was a member of Rock Creek Church of Christ in Ottawa. Ms. Cox is survived by two brothers, Lyle M. Cox, and his wife, Nellie, of Osage City, Kansas, Eldon L. Cox of Nixa, Missouri; sister, Irene N. Cox of Ottawa, Kansas; three nephews, Melvin Cox and his wife, Janice, of Osage City, Kansas, Timothy Cox and his wife, Heide, of Springfield, Missouri, Paul Cox and his wife, Andy, of Ozark, Missouri; and two nieces, Juanita Lange and her husband, Mark, of Tucson, Arizona, Fonda Ellis and her husband, Gary, of Richardson, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law Shirley Bullington Cox. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 6, 2006, at Rock Creek Church of Christ in Ottawa. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Ms. Cox at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, where the family will meet with friends 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. CEMETERY: Key West Cemetery, east of Lebo, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Rock Creek Church of Christ, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
