Elmer Robinson

Elmer Rubin Robinson was born July 27, 1934, at Lawrence, Kansas. He was the son of Ernest 'Dusty' and Hattie (Scott) Robinson. Elmer moved to Ottawa from Lawrence in 1955 and to Topeka in 1989, where he made his home until his death Tuesday, January 1, 2002, at the age of sixty-seven years. Elmer attended Lawrence High School. He was employed by the Franklin County Road & Bridge Department from the late 1950's to late 1960's. In 1968, he became employed by the City of Ottawa Public Works Department, retiring in 1988. He was a former member of First Regular Missionary Baptist Church in Lawrence. He loved visiting with his friends at the R & R in Ottawa and the Green Gable in Lawrence. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Elmer's greatest enjoyment, however, was spending time with his family and grandchildren. In 1951, Elmer was united in marriage with Barbara Smith. They were later divorced. On May 10, 1955, Elmer was united in marriage with Isabelle White at Lawrence, Kansas. She preceded him in death on December 11, 1987. Also preceding him in death are his father; son, Michael Robinson; two sisters, Yyola Riley, Mae Hurst; brother, Ernest 'Sonny' Robinson, Jr.; and two grandsons, Zavier Robinson and Travis Robinson. He is survived by his mother, Hattie Norman of Topeka; four sons, Deward Robinson and his wife, Donna, of Topeka, Francis L. Warren and his wife, Dianna, of Lawrence, Rick E. Robinson and his wife, Connie, of Ottawa, Jerry Lee Robinson and his wife, Dawn, of Strong City; five daughters, Teresia 'Janie' Templeton and her husband, Tedles, of Ottawa, Tamara Jackson and her husband, Harley, of Topeka, E. Celise Hopkins and her husband, Dan, of Ottawa, Lori Ann Rowles and her husband, David, of Ottawa, Sandra Washington and her husband, Russell, of Topeka; two brothers, Arthur Hurst and his wife, Halley, of Topeka, Ronnie Hurst of Lawrence; twenty-six grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2002, at Bowser Johnson Funeral Chapel,723 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, KS., with graveside services at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Dimitri A. Clark. IN STATE: Mr. Robinson will lie in state Friday January 4, 2002 at Bowser Johnson Funeral Chapel, 723 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, KS to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 6 to 8:00 Friday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Dengel & Son Mortuary in charge of Ottawa arrangements.
