Elmer Eugene Mason

Elmer Eugene Mason, age 78, peacefully passed away on January 8, 2025, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, from natural causes. He was born on May 6, 1946, in Pomona (Chippewa Hills), Kansas, to Henry and Carrie Dora (Marks) Mason.

Elmer proudly served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969. Following his service, Elmer worked for Ottawa Truck and Fogel Quarry and later became a self-employed trashman until his retirement in 2004.

A devoted family man, Elmer cherished his time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed attending auctions and yard sales in his leisure time. Elmer was often seen riding his electric bike around town. Whether on a bike ride or out running errands, Elmer was always engaging in conversation with any strangers he met along the way.

Elmer is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Carrie Mason; his brothers: Henry Mason, Jr., Charlie Mason (Alice), William Mason, Louis Mason (Carol), and Robert Mason (Judy); and sisters: Pauline Arb and Ella May Wynn (Larry). He is survived by his sisters: Shirley Bulgarelli (Vincent) and Mabel Lee (James); and his children: daughter, Cassandra James (Michael); sons, David Mason (Christie) and Jacob Mason; as well as his eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Greenwood Cemetery, located at 1104 Labette Rd., Pomona, Kansas. A celebration of life will be held across the road at the Chippewa Hills School building following the service.

Elmer’s spirit and kindness will be missed by all who knew him.
