Elmer Dale Gillogly, 88, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away, Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Rock Creek of Ottawa.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 20, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church, Ottawa.
Family will greet friends at 9:30 A.M. until the service hour on Friday, January 20, 2023, at the church.
Interment Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas.
Dale was born January 16, 1934, in Paola, Kansas, the son of Elmer and Ruth (Sterling) Gillogly.
Living in Princeton, Kansas for 43 years, Dale moved to Ottawa in 2012 where he lived for over 10 years.
Dale graduated from Welda High School with the class of 1951. He furthered his education attending McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas, earning a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts.
In his younger years Dale worked various outdoor jobs from dairy farming, operating farm and heavy equipment, painting caskets and shingling houses. He was also an industrial arts teacher and taught school in many communities in Missouri and Kansas. Dale taught 21 years for the LaCygne School District, retiring in May 1994.
Dale was united in marriage to Georgia Watson August 22, 1956, in Winnemucca, Nevada. To this union were born three sons and three daughters. She preceded him in death on August 18, 1992. He was later united in marriage to Nancy Eckard Stokes December 28, 1996, in Raytown, Missouri. She brought to the family three daughters. She survives of the home.
He was past president of Prairie View Teachers Association, a member of Gideons International, assisting with bible distribution and church presentations and a dedicated member for over 50 years of Calvary Baptist Church serving as an usher, teacher, deacon and trustee.
Dale had many hobbies. One that he loved best was making furniture for his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed the outdoors which was evident in his many hobbies like beekeeping, tending the garden and orchard, fishing and hunting. Dale also liked to travel.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Georgia, daughter, Jean McCally, sisters, Dorthy Weber, Lucille Gillogly, Velma Gillogly and Pearl Messick, brothers, Wendell Gillogly and Lloyd Gillogly.
Survivors include his wife Nancy Gillogly of Ottawa, children, E. Dale Gillogly, Jr. (Denise) of Del Rapids, South Dakota, David Gillogly (Marilyn) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dan Gillogly (Brenda) of Derby, Kansas, Janice Aldrich (Kendal) of Mulvane, Kansas, Jane Gillogly (Brian Smith) of Overland Park; three stepchildren, Carol Stokes, Mary Stokes and Sandra (Kent) Wilde; sisters, Evelyn Gillogly of Osawatomie and Edna Finley (Byron) of Hume, Missouri; twenty grandchildren, five step grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
