Elizabeth Lorraine Snethen

Elizabeth Lorraine Snethen, 98, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Friday, November 27, 2020, at Rock Creek of Ottawa. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Lorraine was born August 6, 1922 in Danville, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Timothy and Minnie R. (Knapp) Hicks. She was a resident of Ottawa since the age of four years. Lorraine graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1940. On Wednesday, October 16, 1946, Lorraine was united in marriage with Mearl Edward Snethen at Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 6, 2004. Lorraine died on her husbands’ birthday and her husband Mearl passed away on Lorraine’s birthday. She was a member of the Ottawa Nazarene Church where she was on the board and taught Sunday school. She worked over twenty years in food service for Ottawa USD 290, retiring in 1983. Lorraine enjoyed having and going to garage sales. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Minnie Hicks; brothers, James Hicks and Delbert E. Hicks; sisters, Edythe Fussell and Clara Burgoon. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Barrett and husband David of Ottawa; grandchildren, Barbara Bishoff and husband Mark of Ottawa, and Bryan Barrett of Ottawa; great grandchildren, Joel Eugene Bishoff, Sean David Bishoff and Erin Michelle Bishoff.
