Elizabeth Belle “Betty” Bloomer, 101, of Wellsville, Kansas passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Wellsville Health & Rehabilitation, Wellsville, Kansas.

Services will be held 11:00am, Friday, September 20, 2024, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family will greet friends prior to services at 10:00am, also at the mortuary.

Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.

Betty was born Friday, May 18, 1923, in Greeley, Kansas, the daughter of William Jefferson and Bertha Maxine (Mills) Thomas.

She lived in Anderson County, Kansas for her first five years and lived in Franklin County, Kansas since that time.

Betty graduated from Rantoul High School in 1941.

On March 29, 1942, Betty was united in marriage with Ralph H. Bloomer at Peoria, Kansas. They were married for sixty-eight beautiful years. They lived on a farm for twenty-five of those years southwest of Rantoul, Kansas before moving to a small farm with a home that Ralph built just outside of Ottawa, Kansas. Ralph and Betty later moved to town in North Ottawa.

She was preceded in death by Ralph on May 4, 2010; parents, William and Bertha Thomas; siblings William Thomas, Jr of Huntington Beach, California, Mildred Bloomer of Overland Park, Kansas, Evelyn Jordon of Vancouver, Washington, Norma Allison of Mission Viejo, California and Freelan Thomas of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter in law Kelly Bloomer of Ottawa, Kansas; son in law Le Roy Roecker of Louisburg, Kansas; and granddaughter Wendy Sue Roecker.

Survivors include her daughters Betty Ann Roecker (Eldon) of Baldwin City, Kansas and Sharon Kay Roecker of Baldwin City, Kansas: son Ralph E. “Ed” Bloomer of Ottawa, Kansas; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Betty worked twenty years as an inspector at Mode O Day in Ottawa, retiring in 1982. She loved to cook, sew, paint and do craft work. Betty also loved to listen to music and go dancing with Ralph.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Ottawa where she served the community with helping cook for Chuppers, a previous member of Ruhamah Baptist Church, a past member of the Rebekah Lodge of Lane and Royal Neighbors as well as a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.

Betty lived a life of love and faith. Her family was her pride and joy, and she loved to serve others. She was selfless, caring and always there to give a big hug.
