Elizabeth Ann Gamet

April 18, 1949 — July 26, 2009

Elizabeth Ann Gamet was born on Monday, April 18, 1949, in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas, the second of three children of Carl Duane and Florence Elizabeth (Robbins) Gamet. She passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2009, at the age of sixty years. She attended Garfield Elementary, Ottawa Jr. High and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1967. After graduation, she attended Wright School of Business in Topeka. For 20 years, she worked for Parmalee Industries where she assembled eyeglasses for the military. After the factory closed, she attended floral design school in Lawrence, Kansas until her health declined and she became permanently disabled. As her health continued to deteriorate, she suffered several mini-strokes, resulting in a move to Albuquerque, New Mexico with her mother in 2000, and to be closer to her sister, Kathleen. She was a lifetime member of the Ottawa Church of the Brethren, where she enjoyed ministering to, and working with, the students of the Son Shine Sunday School Class. Ann had a heart of gold and was a very giving person. She had a soft spot for the very young, the very old and anyone considered to be the underdog. She loved to pamper her niece and nephews, and she was the one who always remembered birthdays and anniversaries. She loved her coworkers and always made sure they had a cake and flowers on what she called their “special day”. She had a passion for animals, raising and pampering several kitties and the family dog when she was younger. She enjoyed the holidays, especially Halloween & Christmas, and was quite fond of spoiling her niece and nephews during the holiday seasons. She enjoyed old time Rock ‘n Roll, particularly Elvis Presley, Marty Robbins, Fats Domino, etc. She also loved the classic movies, especially Abbott and Costello, Lucille Ball, Doris Day, and Marilyn Monroe. In spite of moving a thousand miles away, she remained a loyal fan of the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. Survivors include her two sisters, Kathleen Schulz of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Beverly Bird of Ottawa; two nephews, Stephen Stelting of Denver, Colorado, and David Bird of Ottawa; a niece, Meredith Hall of Ottawa; and two great nieces, Abigail and Megan Bird. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial Services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, with private family inurnment held later at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. The family suggests memorial contributions to Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067.
