Eletta Mildred Martin

Eletta Mildred Martin was born on Monday, January 20, 1919, in Chanute, Kansas. She was the daughter of Peter J. and Mary E. (Feuerborn) Roecker. In 1940, Eletta moved from the Garnett and Greeley, Kansas area to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where she made her home until her death on Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at the age of eighty-eight years. She worked on the cleaning staff at the Best Western Motel in Ottawa for ten and a half years. Prior to that, she worked for twenty-six years as a seamstress at Mode O'Day in Ottawa. Eletta was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa. Eletta was a lovely person. Her family and grandchildren were her greatest enjoyment, and she cherished the time they spent together. She was an expert seamstress and created beautiful quilts for her family to treasure through the years. In her leisure time, she enjoyed watching movies on T.V., especially, westerns. On August 6, 1940, Eletta was united in marriage with Archie Martin in Ottawa, Kansas. They were later divorced. Eletta is survived by three daughters, Immagean Kelly and her husband, David, of Winnsboro, Texas, Emmagean Evans of Ottawa, Kansas, Phyllis Cline and her husband, G. H. 'Red' of Ottawa, Kansas; son, Leroy Martin of Ottawa, Kansas; two brothers, Everett Roecker and his wife, Geneva, of Richmond, Kansas, Alfred Roecker and his wife, Mary, of Williamsburg, Kansas; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; five great-great'grandchildren; and twenty-seven nieces and nephews. Mrs. Martin is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ernest Roecker; and sister, Esther Burroughs. SERVICES: A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2008. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Martin after 9:00 a.m. Thursday at Dengel & Son Mortuary to service hour, where a Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by a family visitation at 7:00 p.m. CEMETERY: Mt Calvary Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Midland Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory in Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
