Eleanor Vaughn Good McKaig, 92, of Paola, Kansas passed away July 27, 2017 at Vintage Park, Paola, Kansas. Eleanor Vaughn Good McKaig was born Easter Sunday, April 12, 1925 in Neosho Rapids, Kansas to John Melvin Good and Hattie Rachel Long Good. Early in her life, the family moved to rural Miami County Kansas where she grew up. Eleanor graduated from Louisburg High School as a valedictorian in 1942. She attended Huff Business School and then began working at Hall Brothers in Kansas City, before the company became Hallmark. Eleanor married Roy McKaig on June 6, 1948 and moved to Paola where she worked from home doing bookkeeping for their family owned business Mac's Garage. They became the parents of four children. Her family was the center of her life and we will always remember her loving care, Christian faith and gentle spirit. She faithfully attended her children's and grandchildren's sporting events and band concerts, and spent countless hours in the kitchen making the most of the family's homegrown garden and orchard. After retirement, Eleanor and Roy enjoyed traveling the states and making new friends along the way. A lifelong Methodist, she volunteered her time generously through the church. As a United Methodist Woman, she served as Circle leader and secretary, and UMW president and secretary among other roles. Eleanor was also president of the Paola VFW Auxiliary in 1956. She is survived by her children, Dennis (Alice) McKaig, Paula (Don) Armstrong all of Paola, Douglas (Susan) McKaig of Parker, CO, Darrel (Laura) McKaig of Olathe; a sister Eloise Teasley of Raytown, MO; brother Eldon (Ellie) Good of North Ft. Myers, FL; sister-in-law Edith McKaig Johnson of Montesano WA; 6 grandchildren, Chad (Julie) Armstrong, Heather McKaig (Holly Kramer), Sarah McKaig (Nate Grubb), Kyle (Erica) Armstrong, Ian McKaig, Miles McKaig; 5 great-grandchildren, Logan & Meghan Armstrong, Iris Armstrong, Elliot Grubb and Rebekah McKaig; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, brother Edwin Good, grandson Kevin Armstrong and great-granddaughter Lucy Armstrong. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Paola United Methodist Church.
