Eleanor R. Wells

Eleanor R. Wells, 84, Ottawa, passed away Monday, November 20, 2017, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 24, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Private family inurnment will be held later at Evergreen Mound Cemetery, Ottawa. Eleanor was born Thursday, October 12, 1933, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Charles D. and Anna A. (Oman) Funk. She was a lifelong Ottawa resident, graduating from Ottawa High School with the class of 1951. Eleanor was united in marriage to Lester Wells September 27, 1953, in Ottawa. He preceded her in death on November 3, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Anna Funk; infant brother, Willard Funk; and sister, Naomi Fritts. Survivors include her three children, Steven Wells and wife Frances of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, David Wells of Ottawa, and Vicki Wells also of Ottawa; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous adopted grandchildren. Eleanor was employed in the 1950s as a bookkeeper for Parmalee Industries, she later was a bookkeeper in the 1960s for Best Truck Line and Star Mobile Homes, all of Ottawa. For 15 years, she was an assembly person for King Radio, retiring in the early 1990s. She was a former member of the North Baptist Church, former Cub Scout leader and member of Aerie Lodge 2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and past president. Eleanor enjoyed crocheting baby hats for Children’s Mercy Hospital and Ransom Memorial Hospital. She also enjoyed camping, playing cards, board games and cooking. Above all, Eleanor loved her family and grandchildren and the time they spent together. The family suggests memorial contributions to Children’s Mercy Hospital c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
