Eleanor J. Mullen, 86, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Ottawa Retirement Village. Family will meet with friends from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Funeral services will immediately follow at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, at the mortuary. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Eleanor was born Wednesday, April 23, 1930, in Parsons, Kansas, the daughter of Warren F. and Juanita (Redden) Johnson. She lived in Parsons, Kansas, from 1930 until 1948; Baxter Springs from 1949 until 1951; Ottawa from 1951 until1959, moving to Independence, Kansas, in 1959; and returned to Ottawa, in 1960 where she made her home until her death. Eleanor graduated from Parsons High School with the class of 1948. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ottawa. Eleanor was united in marriage to Joseph Darrell Mullen May 31, 1948, in Parsons, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 24, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Juanita Johnson; daughter, Elisa Mullen; son, Dan Mullen; and two brothers, Gary and Ralph Johnson. Survivors include her son, Rod Mullen and wife Jan of Mesa, Arizona; daughter-in-law, Sara Mullen of Wichita; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Eleanor was self-employed twenty-three years as a cosmetologist, owning Eleanor’s Beauty Shop in Ottawa, retiring December 1990. She was very talented and artistic and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and painting. The family suggests memorial contributions to Holy Family Apostolate c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
