Edwin Harry “Ed” Horstick, 86, of Richmond, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at Ottawa Retirement Village. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Richmond United Methodist Church. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, September 29, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Interment Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, Kansas. Ed was born Thursday, December 4, 1930, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Harry Cornelius and Myrtle (Wagner) Horstick. He was a lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1948 and graduated from Kansas State University in 1952 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. Ed served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Europe. Ed was united in marriage to Mary Adel Harmon March 22, 1955 at Ottawa, Kansas. She preceded him in death on September 27, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Myrtle Horstick; sister, Dorothy Stumpe; and brother, William Horstick. Survivors include his three children, Jerry Horstick and wife Linda of Richmond, Tom Horstick and wife Linda also of Richmond, and Kathleen Horstick of Topeka; seven grandchildren, Craig Horstick and wife Beth, Amy Mustain and husband Dean, Mark Horstick, J.T. Horstick and wife Jess, Adam Horstick and wife Marissa, Katelin Horstick, and Jordan Horstick; and five great grandchildren. He was a farmer and worked for Kansas State University in their East Kansas Experimental field, retiring after thirty years of service in 1997. He was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church and their men’s group. He served as an officer in the Richmond High School Alumni Association, was past Farm Bureau officer and Franklin County Soil Conservation board member. Ed also served on the Richmond Cemetery and fire board and the Central Heights school board.
